10 New Insights in Climate Science 2024/2025

The ten most important current findings from climate research

Heatwaves are bringing ecosystems to the brink of collapse and jeopardising an unborn generation, according to the headline of the 10 New Insights in Climate Science (10 NICS) press release. 10 NICS is a report that publishes the ten most important developments and findings from climate research in the run-up to the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference (COP). It is intended to provide political decision-makers with the latest and most important findings from climate research over the last 18 months. This year, more than 80 leading researchers from 45 countries were involved in producing the report, covering a broad spectrum of climate research, including GERICS researchers.

Insight 2, which was coordinated by GERICS scientist Tanja Blome, addresses the implications of changing aerosol concentrations for climate change mitigation and adaptation. GERICS scientist Henry Wu acted as Insight Coordinator for Insight 5 on the devastating global impacts of ocean change and Insight 10 focussing on fairness, acceptance and resistance in climate policy.

The report is a joint initiative of Future Earth, The Earth League and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP).
