WCRP
The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) facilitates analysis and prediction of the variability and changes in the Earth system in order to make the results available for practical applications with societal relevance. The focus is on the predictability of climatic changes and the assessment of human influence on the climate.
WCRP organizes meetings, workshops and conferences to coordinate and strengthen climate research. WCRP committees, working groups and projects develop the research agenda and mobilize the research community for relevant activities, supported by a secretariat, the Joint Planning Staff (JPS). The "Joint Scientific Committee (JSC)" is responsible for the scientific leadership of the programme. It meets once a year and is composed of scientists selected by mutual agreement between the three sponsoring organizations: the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the International Science Council (ISC) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO).
