Science Platform Sustainability 2030

The Science Platform Sustainability 2030 (wpn2030) provides an interface between science and policy to reflect on questions of sustainability policy and to support the further development and implementation of the German Sustainability Strategy (DNS) with scientific expertise - for example in the context of the work on the transformation areas. The platform works independently and is systematically integrated into the official political steering, dialogue and implementation processes for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in, with and by Germany.

The wpn2030 is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The founding phase (May 2017 to June 2021) was followed by a status assessment and a reflection and strategy process (June 2021 to February 2023). Since March 2023, the wpn2030 aims to address the challenges of the transformation towards sustainability and to accompany the further development of the DNS with transformative research and co-design.

Scientific sponsors of the wpn2030 are the German Committee for Sustainability Research in Future Earth (DKN), the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Germany (SDSN Germany) and the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS), represented by the respective co-chairs Prof. Daniela Jacob (DKN), Prof. Christa Liedtke (SDSN Germany) and Prof. Mark Lawrence (RIFS). The platform's institutional partners are the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), an institution of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy (WI) and the RIFS, which acts as the network's coordinating partner.
